    How to Fix the Economy

The Business Section Editor of the St. Petersburg Times asked readers for their ideas on how they would fix the economy. Here's the winner.

    Patriotic retirement

There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay
them $ 3 million apiece severance with the following stipulations :

    1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings -
    Unemployment fixed .

    2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered -
    Auto Industry fixed .

    3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
    Housing Crisis fixed

Total amount committed - -$120 billion--
This would work plus every one would be happy!

No politician is going to go for it becuase there is NOTHING IN IT FOR THEM TO GIVE OUT AS KICKBACKS.

Once you learn that government is not about YOU, then you will understand.

I read an article that said that with all the bail out money being spent to fix the economy that they could have given every family in America $89K. Just think how much better off we would be if every family had $89K to use to stimulate the economy.

Now, we all know that would never happen because like already posted the politicians won't get kick backs from their buddies.

    They are truly fleecing America.

While I do not support giving free money to anyone, if we must, I’d much sooner see it in the hands of the little guy as opposed to the greedy business men and politicians that put us in this mess.

The math is wrong....it wouldn't be 120 billion. The cost would be 120 trillion dollars.

A billion is a thousand million. A trillion is thousand billion.

What is amazing is that the thousand of people who forward these kinds of emails never bother to do the math.

According to the census there are roughly 105 million American households. That would be $9.3 trillion.

I think we can make most of the unemployment go away by making congress work 1 week a year.
