Kathy Dahlkemper
I recently sent a thank you note to Ms Dahlkempers office, for her standing up for the 2nd amendment in her speech on the House floor. If you haven't seen it, it is available on her webpage. Here is her response:
Dear Matt,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the protection of your Second Amendment Right as a U.S. Citizen. This is an important issue, and I'm glad you have taken the time to share your views with me.
I believe that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees your right to own and use firearms for self-defense and sport. Please know that I will continue to advocate for upholding the Second Amendment as well as ensuring the safety of the American people. I believe our nation's gun laws are sufficient for law-abiding citizens and should not be further restricted. We need to make sure that dangerous violent felons forfeit their right to bear arms. You should know that I will also fight any attempt to reduce federal hunting acreage and maintain the opportunity to hunt for hunters in Pennsylvania
Thanks again for taking the time to share your views with me. I hope that you will continue to keep me informed of your views on this and other issues of interest to you. If you would like to receive my E-newsletter, please sign up at my website at www.dahlkemper.house.gov. If I can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kathy Dahlkemper
Member of Congress
Hopefully she means it, and I will monitor her votes.

She knows that NWPA is huge for gunners. If she came out anti-2A, she'd be out of office in short order.

Re: Kathy Dahlkemper
And right there she has it WRONG. The 2nd Amendment is not about use for self-defense and sport. It is about freedom and liberty. The founding fathers knew very well that 'Government' will _ALWAYS_ try to gain more and more power, and the 2nd Amendment was put in place to ensure that the government couldn't get too big. To that extent, the government _should_ fear the people.

Re: Kathy Dahlkemper
That could just as easily mean self-defense against the state. It doesn't help our cause when we alienate potential allies on semantics. I didn't vote for Dahlkemper but I am glad to see her support the 2A.

Re: Kathy Dahlkemper
I was wondering how she would come down on on 2A issues....I've contacted the Erie office several times by phone to voice opinions on various gun legislation as well as the bailout crapola, and was always met with a polite respondent who said they would pass my views on. Hopefully she'll stay true to what she has said.

I've been invited to a meeting with her next week.
We'll see how that goes.

Re: Kathy Dahlkemper
Murtha is in southwest PA...they do things differently down there!
Seriously, that area (his district) has been artificially depressed for decades. The only money that flows into the area is his pork. Therefore, he's seen as one of the good guys. He can call them redneck racists, but they still love the money he brings into the area. It's all part of that strange phenomenon where citizens say, "All politicians are crooks, except for my congressman..."
Northwest PA is far more rural and self-sufficient. The 3rd district only has a few "urban" areas: Erie, Meadville, the Shenango Valley, and Butler. The rest is just woods and farmland with little boroughs dotting the landscape. The area is also far more Republican/Conservative Democrat, so they haven't really tasted (let alone lusted after) the "fruit" of socialism.
