Default .25-35 what do you think, any good?

I was thinking of getting one for my grandson, I know it used to be popular and killed a lot of deer years ago. If you have any actual experiance with this cartridge please reply.
I can read ballistic charts, but would like real life experiance as KE doesn't always tell the whole story.

I have one, but never hunted deer with it. I am sure many deer have been taken with the .25-35 Win. Bullet placement is everything. 117 grain bullet at only moderate speed makes it a cartridge for really good shooters.
I can tell you this though, at 200 yards there is not enough striking energy to knock down a ram silhouette. Easy to shoot cartridge. Not much recoil. Accurate cartridge. Rifles are scarce now a days. A Winchester 1894 in .25-35 is going to set you back a few coins if you can find one.
    Good luck, Jeff

    Hello-
I have a prestine model 1894 Winchester in 25-35. I had to look a long time to find one in that caliber, that was still in decent shape. I take it blacktail deer hunting w/me. I only use it coyote's though... I believe it would bring down a smaller (blacktail deer) at 100 yrds or less. I love it and shoot it as often as I can and it's right on at 100yrds after that...???? drops extremely fast. Hope this helps.
