Guns, eats and things to do in Reading?
I've been contracted to do some work in Reading over the next couple months and I'll be in town next week. I'll also be returning intermittently over the next 6 weeks. I'll be free in the evening (after 4:00PM) and wanted to know what I can get into.
Guns shops are a plus. I was in for an initial visit last Tuesday and Wednesday and tried to find the AR builder in Birdsboro but I didn't have much luck. I'm also aware of Richland Shooters and On Target in the surrounding area. Let me know were are the must visit shops.
Eateries are also requested, I did lunch Wednesday at Canal Street Pub and it was pretty darn good (Crab, corn chowder ....yum!). Any out of the way or mom & pops places that are must tries?
Any other places or landmarks that you would suggest are also suggested. Thanks in advice!

Shyda's gun shop in lebanon - good prices
The handgunner in Topton - never been there but I hear about it a lot.
Eating:
3rd and spruce cafe in west reading
Alberije in Muhlenberg, Wyomissing, and Exeter
Infinitos Pizza in Muhlenberg - dirty all you can eat pizza buffet and cheap
Beverly Hills Tavern, Spring Township
Peanut Bar - It's legendary
Judy's on cherry/the speckled hen - Reading
Ugly Oyster - Reading
Hung Thans - 6th and court, Reading (cash only)
The City is dead after 5pm, unless you are looking for vices. Most of the entertaining stuff to do is located west of the city. West Reading has a cool little main steet scene. Kutztown has the university, lots of crazy drinking, and the amish. There is the Mid atlantic air musuem at the airport, Blue Marsh lake offers a lot of activities (outdoors, if you have one bring a mt bike). Cabeleas is just 30 minutes from Reading and rather empty on the weeknights. Reading Comedy outlet is a fun stop, but I think it's only open on weekends. Grings mill is a nice place to take in the scenery as well as some great trout fishing in the tulley(creek). There is an indoor rock climbing place in Wyomissing that is a blast.
Of course it depends on how far you want to drive and where you are staying.
If you like history there is the reading public museum, historical society, padoga, reading fire museum, and some art galleries at the local colleges.
The city of Reading has an astronomical crime rate. So stay armed and get out of town before dark. The further you travel out into the burbs the better and safer it gets.Last edited by tail pipe todd; April 5th, 2009 at 09:36 AM. Reason: updated

Re: Guns, eats and things to do in Reading?
Thanks a bunch, great info.
The client is putting me up at the Wyndham right down town and I believe I saw the Ugly Oyster just down 5th Street. I had issue with internet connectivity last week and that's a must in my business, I may have an excuse to move to another hotel. I always carry SD. What's the local PD like? The original point and click interface was a Colt Peacemaker!

The Reading Pd is inept. They gripped me up over CC a few years back, turned into a name calling match. They are the lowest paid in the county and the most worked. Get out of that hotel. Go over to the Reading Crown or Inn at Reading. If you are staying downtown, never go out unarmed, NEVER!

+1 on the gun gallery. It's a pretty cool place to kill some time. Just shut your cell phone off before ya go in or you'll get an evil eye if it rings...

If you like drag racing at all, Maple Grove raceway should be opening soon, if it's not already open. Very close by in Mohnton.
