Default The "strange problems/pet peeves that need solved" thread.

This is a place to say "XYZ has always bugged me, is there a way to fix it?

    I'll start:

We have some horses at our place and they are a major time investment. I can usually deal with it but the mornings are by far the worst. I usually get up late and then have to stand there with my thumb up my butt waiting for the water buckets to fill. And depending on the temperature the hose might be frozen even though I drain it completely after each use.

I have considered adding a second hose from the other hydrant, but I don't want to deal with that. Do you think it would be possible or safe to modify a cheap pressure washer to boost the pressure in the hose? I would worry about it bursting a cheaper hose, but we have a good quality 5/8 rubber model and I don't know how the fittings would hold up. Right now we are using full flow plastic valves but I imagine I would have to upgrade them.

    Any ideas from the tinkers?

They make pumps exactly for garden hoses.

just use it to boost the pressure, and don't worry about popping hoses or hacking apart a pressure washer. Looks like they go for about $80-$100 new.

That looks so much easier, but somehow less fun.

I'll have to look into those a bit more...

    HMMM...a pet peeve..!

My ex husband moved out quite a while ago....but he moved into the house next door!

Not next door down the road..
NOOO next door like I can see you changing in your bedroom next door.
Like I can smell what your cookin for dinner ..next door.

Other than sell the house and move, which I would LOVE to do. But with my son being a JR in High School. And now being recently injured and out of school for lots of surgeries . I am clueless as to what is going thru that sick mind.

We can't even go outside if he is out there because he makes all kinds of gestures and comments.

And don't get me started on what he acts like when a guy comes over ! Regaurdless whether or not he is a FRIEND or a date.

What the hell else would anyone do in my situation. Hell I bake cookies and mow the lawn with my gun on my hip. Think that would make him want to move away... NOPE..

Winter was fun .. to see the foot tracks in the snow from his house to mine....hmmm

Kids friends think we are Vampires cuz our curtains and blinds are ALWAYS closed..

Thought maybe when weather got better to invite everyone I knew that had guns over and tell them to bring them all be out back having a party while passing around the guns , cleaning them and such ... would that work?
Gals with guns that wear g-strings..... a dangerous combination....Or is it?

Sister has horses and is equipped with horse drinkers, basically the thing has a float in it and fills on its own when the horse drinks, she has a few 50 gal barrels up higher and then fills those once in a while...

    Look up Horse drinkers.

Depending on the # of horses and how the barn is set up, that's Do-able but it's a hefty expense. NOW what you could do, if they don't stay in the barn forever, get a NELSON HORSE WATERER and have it outside. Then you fill the water buckets in the evening when you have more time.

For the horses I would be tempted to take an old toilet, clean it, put a heater coil in it and mount it so they don't knock it over. You could rig it so it filled the bowl at a certain level. Or just rig a float type setup to a watering trough.

We considered automatic water systems, but with 6 horses and the layout of the barn it was not practical. Trust me, I've looked. I want to invest in a 1" diameter hose when this one is finished and use something to ramp up the pressure.

    pet peeve:

Being a member of a private range and having people still abuse it, being unclean, disrespectful, destructive, and generally a$$holes. its a private club you should just be glad its there and not destroy it. but you never find the person actually doing it, you only ever find there aftermath. even if you bend the rules and shoot a few bottles at least clean the bottles up. thats why there is the no shooting bottles rule because people dont clean them up and its dangerous. dont leave your evidense behind for someone else to clean up.

    Done
