Defensive Pistol Training
My fiancee and I are looking in the Pittsburgh Area for a defensive Pistol Training Class. I have fairly extensive pistol experience although i am no expert. She has very little training, but is willing to learn and loves to shoot. I am encouraging her to get her Concealed permit and would really like for both of us to have some formal training. I will be the first to tell you that other than safely handling a gun i am not qualified to teach someone how to properly use one. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Defensive Pistol Training
my recommendation is the FIRE institute.
here is their website:
www.fireinstitute.org
PeteG and TonyF of the FIRE institute also post their classes in the training subforum here on PAFOA.
they are both great instructors themselves and they bring in nationally and internationally known instructors for various classes.
i'd suggest looking through their course descriptions and finding one that sounds right for you.Last edited by LittleRedToyota; April 1st, 2009 at 02:42 PM.

Re: Defensive Pistol Training
Basic tactical is geared for beginners.
And, I have heard nothing but good reviews on the Handgun 101 that they hold. In fact, I'm hoping to make it there this year myself.
Took the wife to a Intro to Handguns class and she really enjoyed it and was impressed with the class. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....
The day they want my guns, they'll have to bring theirs!!!Proud to be One of the 3%

Re: Defensive Pistol Training
you should count yourself lucky that you live in the PGH area.
FIRE institute provides quality training that is accessable and affordable. They are a NON-PROFIT dedicated to bring training to our area.
If you have never ever had any training before a good place to start (esp for your wife as she is very new) would be the "one day handgun clinic", it is hands down the best $45 you will spend ever on anything gun related.
If you sign up for the Basic Tactical Pistol in May I will see you there
I was also looking into the "Tactics for Homeowners" class. It sounds perfect for you and your wife to take together.
