Need help from the AR gurus.
To my dismay, the rear sight aperature on my Bushmaster is wabbling and it appears that a pin has fallen out? There's the little hole in the front of the rear sight (see pic with red circle) and it looks like there should be a pin holding the rear sight steady? If so what would the name of this pin be? This diagram doesn't really help me much. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
The elevation and windage knobs are functional, it's just that the whole rear sight "wiggles".
***edited to add, with the rear sight at max elevation, the wobble goes away.
.
**edited again.
I know that it's usually cocked a little toward the left because of the spring and ball, but for the life of me I can't remember if the wabble is normal or not. There's about 1/16th" to 1/8" of play in the rear sight.Last edited by jdlv4_0; April 26th, 2007 at 06:50 PM.

Re: Need help from the AR gurus.
Your best bet would be to call Bushmaster. The only problems I ever had with ARs have always been with one of my Bushmasters but.....they stand behind their products like nobodies business.
For me, it was always no questions asked, no receipts needed, no serial number required to prove anything. Just good service and parts shipped or gun part sent in and replaced or fixed.Guns are good.

Re: Need help from the AR gurus.
After further research, I don't think there's a pin missing. I think I may just have a worn out spring in the rear sight housing behind the ball. The level of wabble increases / decreases, depending on the elevation setting.

Re: Need help from the AR gurus.
3 things:
Is your Bushmaster an A2 or A3?
Did you buy it new or used?
Waht Did Bushmaster tell you about the issue?
I thought when I bought mine (A3) about 5 or 6 years ago I heard something about a problem with the rear sights. It may not be the same thing though

Re: Need help from the AR gurus.
From what I remember, if you call them they can take care of you over the phone. By either sending you the part you need or having you send it in for service.
The reason I asked about A2 or A3 is beacuse they would likely just send you a new carryhandle if you return the other.

Rear sight retaining pin.
-OR-
Rear sight base spring pin.
Same thing. They never show them in the diagram and I don't know why. They are like $2.00 and the flat spring or "rear sight base spring" is about $1.00
