Which Range Timer do you Suggest.
I have decided that I want to get myself a timer to use when I practice for IDPA and USPSA. Anyone got any pros and cons? Good points, bad points? Reviews of timers you have or have used. I just want to use it for myself down at the range. Hope you all can suggest a good one for me to buy.
Thanks in advance. Yinz are always helpful. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....

Wow, nobody has an opinion on this. This has got to be a first. I'm totally amazed at this one.

I expected an answer from Lycan. But I really thought that more of us had and/or used timers when shooting. This is a big surprise.

CED 7000 or PACT Club Timer III.
I find the PACT easier to use, but the CED has more features. The only thing about the CED that makes me twitchy is the internal (non replaceable) battery.
Both have fire alarm level buzzers. Both give you total time, number of shots fired, and time to first shot on the main screen.PREPARE FOR BATTLE

Yeah, I kept reading that and reading that. Didn't like the thought of not being able to replace the battery. All batteries die eventually. Even rechargeable take a smaller and smaller charge every time you recharge them, or they at least use to.
I have seen them, but know nothing of the PACT timers. Was hoping to hear from people on here to see what they think.
Most everyone I know has the CED 8000 (Mainly cause they bought them before the 7000's came out I'ld say. But I like the fact that you can replace the battery on the 8000.) The 8000 is a lot bigger. And it seems to have gotten a lot of really bad reviews on one of the sights I was on.The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....

Re: Which Range Timer do you Suggest.
I have the CED 8000. It works well and comes with a belt clip and earphones which are both very handy.
I also has a sensitivity adjustment so it can pick up even mouse fart loads or tune out echoes.
The only thing it doesn't have that I wish it did is a volume control for the buzzer -- it's f'in loud -- but the earphones make up for that.

Re: Which Range Timer do you Suggest.
I've had the 8000 and the 7000.
Rechargable batteries die because people do not understand the NiCad battery. You CANNOT take a NiCad battery and use it for 10 minutes and then throw it back on the charger. They get a "memory" that way. In other words, you just cut the battery life by half. You need to bleed them down to nothing and then recharge them to full.....EVERY time. This is why so many things ask you to get 12 hours of charge before using them.....it sets the memory of the battery.

Re: Which Range Timer do you Suggest.
I think I have already put my .02 about the timers but just breifly ready the last couple posts makes me want to add. You can buy an optional add-on battery pack for the CED 7000. It requires 2 AA batteries and will charge the the main battery and will operate the timer. I think it only cost $10. It has been a while since I bought mine. I don't have the 8000 mod. so I don't have a comparison, but I like CED 7000. Just in case anyone cares... Happy Shopping.

Re: Which Range Timer do you Suggest.
I use NI-Cads in our ski patrol radios. We were told my the guy that keeps our radios runnig for us, that NI-Cads no longer have a memory.
Same with the radios at work. Our old Ni-Cads Batteries did have a memory and we had to put them on a device to totally drain them before charging them up again. But the new radios/batteries do not have this problem, and we were told to just put them right back onto the chargers, it didn't need to drain the batteries any more, since the new batteries do not have a memory like the old ones did.The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....
