Default Bought gift of security for my fiance..

I saw this old Taurus Model 85 at local shop few days ago, and its so petite, cute and shinny, I just had to get it for her!
Now, she can have something to carry(when she gets her LTCF..)

I donno how old it is. It got no lock, so I know its at least pre-1996. Looks very well made tho.
I've never seen Model 85 with 3" barrel on it.
For my 4'-10" fiance, its just PERFECT size like tailer made for her.

Only thing is that she does not like the grip. I guess I should be able to find some decent molded rubber or Hogue exotic wood, or god forbid, may be even a pink grip!

I know that there are thread floating around from few days ago, where guy had nothing but an issue with his Model 85. But I've always had good luck with Taurus pistol - specialy a wheel guns. So I'm hoping this will be decent gun for her.
If not, well, I didn't pay too much for it

I've got a 2 inch I bought in 1983. It has a front sight like yours. I put the serial number in on the Taurus web site and it didn't return a result. I'd be curious if you get anything on your number.

I've had Taurus 85's for at least 15 years and never saw a 3" barrel on one...are you sure it's an 85?

Hogue grips work well on the 85's. If you don't mind spending the money, your GF and you might want to consider Crimson trace grips too. They're a bit pricy though...$250 or so.

That's a steel gun, so there should have no problems if your GF wants to use +P ammo for self defense. I'd suggest using standard pressure ammo through it at the range though.

Says so on inside of yoke.
    I thought it was Model 82, but 82 is 6 shot, mid-frame.
This one is 5 shots. Its really just 2" barrel extended to 3". everything else is reguler 85.

Very nice. Glad it fits. In regards to the pink grip, while I can appreciate you were joking, I don't want fuel added to the fire about toy guns looking like real ones and vice versa.

Were you thinking about a safe to match, or just a trigger/barrel lock?

well, she is actualy looking for pink grip.
luckly, she is unable to find them thus far.

We took it out to range yeasterday along with my other wheelguns, and after she let me test fired few rounds, making sure thing shoots fine(read: don't blow up. thanks hun..), she shot several defferent ammo through it.
Being little, it obviously kicked noticbly more then my Model 65(K frame), and 686(Lframe). I woundn't even call it recoil, more like gun jumps in your hand.
It was accurate enough, but shot little low. About inch or so low from 12yds., but grouping was more then acceptable. I got 2"group at same distance, shooting single action.
    Double action was...decent.
My fiance did not like verticle surrated trigger, however.

All in all, it ain't no Smith. But For the money I paid for, its pretty good gun I must admit.
