    Question AR-15 rifle Kit question

ive been looking around and alot of people are either not selling their ar-15 or they want insane amount of money for em, so ive been looking at rifle kits they include everything execpt the stripped lower. the kits i found a few cheap ones for like 460 bucks, and i can get a stripped lower for like 100 so 560 for a whole ar-15 sounds good, but is it too good to be true? anyone have any exp with these kits?

this is the kit i am looking at: http://www.rangersales.com/index.php...roducts_id=472

any feedback would be great! tips, ideas, anything.

    thanks,

    Tom

I don't have any experience with Ranger but from what I saw it seems to be a good way to get an entry level AR. The components seems to be typical AR pieces. Should be ok. It did say though that as of 12 March the lead time is 6 months from date of order to get your stuff.

I pruchased the 20" A2 kit from Ranger a week before the election and was putting it together on election night. I'm happy with the final assembled rifle, it's much like the A2 I had in the Army.
My only complaint is a bit of a color swirl in the stock, it's visible in the picture. This however has no effect on the function of the rifle. And I've seen this on assembled rifles in stores.
Also the color and texture of the parts in the kit is nearly identical to the stripped Bushmaster lower I used. I know I have read that some kits don't match very well.

Call them. It's unlikely that they have them in stock. Many companies don't have ways to track inventory. RRA for example shows that you can order parts for cheap, allows you to place an order, but will not have any in stock. I have over $1K tied up that way already.

If they DO have these in stock, it's a GREAT price.

Good luck finding lowers for $100 right now. The prices went up after the election and you will typically spend $150-225 depending on brand, from where and how long you're willing to wait.

I built one about a year ago, DPMS lower with Barrel DTI 16" 1x9 Chrome Lined Heavy Barrel:CAR Handguards with Heat Shields:M4 Buttstock-Carrying Handle:None:A2 Flash Hider:Standard A2 Front Sight:A2 Grip:Flat Top Upper with T-Marks DPMS detachable rear sight from DEL-TON.

From their site http://www.del-ton.com/ it looks like a long backlog. Very easy to do, but as stated earlier lowers are going for more than $100 these days. I have about 765 in mine with the $50 knock off reddot.

I bought a kit from Model 1 sales and the parts were good quality. RRA lower to completed it for a $560 piece. This was last June. It is a 20" A2 style gun.

Kits in general are an easy way to save a lot of money.

I was afraid to take the plunge initially, but after doing some research, and realizing I could now "afford the unaffordable", I did it.

There was just no way I could justify the price of an off the rack AR-15.

    Go for it.
