    Support PA Sheriffs

The Pennsylvania Sheriffs’ Association supports measures to increase the presence of law enforcement in the Commonwealth. PSA is urging state lawmakers to pass House Bill 466, which would allow the Commonwealth’s 2,300 fully trained deputy sheriffs to participate in law enforcement activities as needed in their communities. To learn more about this important issue please visit Support PA Sheriffs and also consider signing our online petition.

PSA is also supporting Speaker Emeritus John Perzel’s House Bill 1189, a measure that would fund the hiring of nearly 10,000 police officers in the Commonwealth. To sign an online petition in support of House Bill 1189, please click here

Although HB466 was not voted on in the 2007-2008 session of the Legislature, new legislation will be introduced for the 2009-2010 session

    That's funny you posted that.
Last week, a co-worker, saw a YCS deputy pull someone over in the parking lot.

    That's not the issue.
The issue in the Sheriff's Dept. over-stepping their authority.

I think it depends on the department and the training, a few years ago while working a construction site in Chester County I saw a Chester County Sheriff car make a car stop.

Since they need to be Act 120 trained to enforce the motor vehicle code, there are not a lot of Sheriff's departments that can...what are they, Chester and Allegheny?

It depends. If the Deputy was properly trained/cert'd and he witnessed it, he can so long as its a breach of the peace which many motor vehicle violations are(speeding, passing recklessly, etc).

Kline, Leet, Lockridge, Dobbins, or some other case in Tioga or Potter county(I'm thinking Leet, and affirmed in Dobbins) that a Sheriff can if they are properly trained and cert'd, and if the offense occurs in their presense.

And since a Sheriff and his/her Deputies can arrest for a breach of the peace committed within his presense, he can also cite you.
