my family is looking to relocate to P.A. from michigan and we all hunt deer and small game my question is to hunt in p.a. with a firearm do you have to go through any back ground checks for the right to buy the liscense i know some states require this is yours one of them? thanks in advance for any answeres.:)

Nope, no background checks required for a hunting license here in PA.

nope, no background checks to buy a license. you will need either a hunter safety certificate or hunting license from Michigan to purchase a PA license.

If there's a chance one would fail a background check, meaning one could not legally own a gun, I think that would/could be a problem.

got all that and thanks for the info the states site is useless on this issue it was helpful in alot of other areas though see ya all in the brush this fall.

no we would not fail i just wanted to make sure we had everything in place prior to season would hate for opening day to be on the couch waiting on paper work.

you'll love PA and our gun freedoms in this great state...sadly, we have neighbors that aren't so gun friendly (NJ & NY)

around pittsburgh weve got friends there and my sister is in butler so well end up somewhere in between them my job in the auto industry took a shit along with gm and we need to get out of this state.Michigan also has pretty much the same gun laws as far as i can tell so there shouldnt be to much of a change.so how big are the average mans deer out there?

Pittsburghs a great area. our average deer out here depend on area you hunt. around pittsburgh buck average 175#s while north central mountian deer average around 125#s it's not uncommon to get a buck that tips 200#s. i live just east of Pittsburgh and our average deer in the "burbs" is 150# does and 200# bucks

don't forget our Black Bear population. great times hunting those. no baiting allowed.
