    Default Bersa380-stake spring to frame

Have a 3 month old new Bersa 380. At 2nd gunsmith for 2nd break of disconnector spring.

The darn spring is staked into the aluminum frame at one end. Not sure what material used. Bersa having issue with bad springs for these.

Tired of the wait/cost to ship under warranty. I bought 3 spare springs(hopefully newer good ones).

Any ideas how I could secure fasten- "stake" I guess -to frame?

I would really like to do this myself if needed again. I have taken out the disconnector(trigger)bar myself without issue and need to do that to get to where spring staked to frame.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

    This should help you out:

    http://www.geocities.com/bersa_thunder/manual1c.html

its a service manual for the bersa 380 and it covers the part you are asking about.

good luck and use the right tool

Gold Cup, I looked at that manual some time ago and while it does show disassembly down to the spring area, it does NOT cover the RIGHT END OF SPRING removal or how and what to use to stake it into the frame when replacing the spring. The right end is affixed using aluminum or some other metal or metal like material.

The entire diagram/procedure keeps the right end of the spring in to the frame.

I would like to know how and what to use to keep the right end of spring fixed into the frame.

    Thanks anyway.

from the looks of the spring it should snap into the hole on the frame and it locks into place. it would be better to change the hook that goes into the hole as opposed to stake the spring back into place.

I don't see anything in the schematic or the picture showing that spring is staked in place or that it shold be staked in place.

have you checked with wolf to see if they make a spring for you.

I have taken the disconnector bar off and there is no question the spring is staked in there in 3 areas. Looks like aluminum or lead type material locks the spring in there.

I have 3 springs I got from Bersa.

The spring does not go into a hole but merely slides down over the END of the frame, thus not held in place.

I am very reluctant to drill a hole into the frame in the area to put the end of the spring in. Could void the warranty.

If Im seeing it correctly, I think I see where youre talking about. Is there any way to rotate the spring, and/or slide it out from under it's stakes towards the left/rear of the frame?

If that's not an option, you might have to remove the original stakes, and either re-stake the new spring, or secure it by chemical means (yellow Loc-Tite).

+1 on picking up Wolff springs, not new manufacturer's springs. I haven't seen a Wolff break yet.

    Common highrise, Thanks for comments.

I will look into yellow loctite. Not sure if it would secure it enough.

Did research Wolf springs. They dont make any for that application.

Taking an old broken spring out of the staked channel should be easy enough.

The issue remains how to stake a new spring into the frame and what to use.

Yellow loctite...maybe. Will buy some and will test it on some other steel spring onto aluminum to see how well it binds the two together and force needed to break the bond.

If loctite doesn't suit your fancy, just re-stake it with an appropriately sized punch.
