    Default Doberman pet owners

If you have a doberman purebed and it's between the ages of 5and 9yrs old
the University of Penn will screen your pet for free to check for heart disease.
they advertised this in the local philly paper and said to E-mail them at:
    vcic@vet.upenn.edu
And in the subject line put Protect dobermen study.
According to the ad dobermens have heart problems and they are offering to screen your doberman for free. So who ever has a dobermen I would check it out.

    Here is their Site:

    http://research.vet.upenn.edu/vcic/C...5/Default.aspx

“Clinical and Survival Benefit of Pimobendan in Preclinical Dilated Cardiomyopathy in the Doberman”
We are recruiting dogs to be included in a new study evaluating pimobendan in Dobermans with asymptomatic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Specifically, we will be focusing on whether the medication delays the onset of heart failure and improves long-term survival.

To be included in the study, dogs must be purebred Dobermans, 5 - 9 years of age, have no clinical signs (current or prior) of heart disease or previously diagnosed heart disease of any kind. Dogs cannot be included in the study if they are taking thyroid supplement, long term steroids, or medications for heart or lung disease in the past 6 months. Female dogs that are pregnant, lactating or intended for breeding are not eligible.

Free screening is conditional on agreement to participate in the study if the dog is suitable. Screening tests include a consultation, echocardiogram, blood sample analysis and 24 hour ECG.

Dogs included in the study will receive pimobendan or placebo, and will be required to return to VHUP for rechecks approximately two times yearly.

For more information on this or any of our other studies please contact the Veterinary Clinical Investigation Center at 215-573-0302 or via e-mail at vcic@vet.upen.edu

The Doc that did My Dobe's ears. Had a 11y.o. Dobe, her first. And one day he ran into the woods behind her House , never to come back.
She walked the woods looking for him for months never to find him.
She thinks he had a heart attack and dropped somewhere.

It really is sad that they do not live as long as others, they are some of my favorite dogs.
