Miami Burger King shooting: Customer vs Robber
News link
Text of the article:
1 dead, one injured in Miami Burger King shooting
By ROBERT SAMUELS AND JENNIFER LEBOVICH
One man was killed and another seriously wounded in a shootout inside a Miami Burger King on Tuesday, officials said.
Police said a man wearing a ski mask walked into the store at Biscayne Boulevard and 54th Street and demanded money from a clerk.
A customer, who has a concealed weapons permit, pulled a gun, said Officer Jeff Giordano, a Miami police spokesman.
The customer and robber exchanged fire.
The robber was shot dead at the scene.
The customer, who had several gunshot wounds, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center in serious but stable condition, said Lt. Ignatius Carroll, a Miami Fire Rescue spokesman.
At about 4 p.m., officials got several 911 calls reporting people shot inside the Burger King.
I have to wonder whether anyone would have been shot if the customer hadn't drawn his weapon. Not enough detail in the article to know exactly how it went down. If it were me and I wasn't being threatened directly, I'm not sure I'd have drawn on the guy. Burger King losing a few dollars isn't worth my life. Of course, maybe there was much more than just money on the line.

Depending on the amount of crime in the area, the customer might have had enough and wanted to do his part to stop it. While it might be looked at as wrong to do what he did, that is what will make the BG's think twice about there choice of career. Unfortunately it is the "He wasn't threatening me" attitude that keeps these thugs coming back for more.

While Im not a huge fan of Lawyers ( present company excluded of course ) , this passage by Attorney Jeffrey Snyder always struck a chord with me
" Crime is rampant because the law - abiding , each of us , condone it , excuse it , permit it,submit to it . We permit and encourage it because we dont fight back, immediately, then and there , where it happens . Crime is not rampant because we do not have enough prisons, because judges and prosectiors are to soft, because the police are hamstrung with absurd technicalities . The defect is there , in our character . We have become a nation of cowards and shirkers . "Si vis pacem, para bellum
