Slavery reinstated by the House today.
Yes, that's right GIVE act, Mandatory Volunteer-ism. Because of military is stretch thin.. HR 1388
The House passed a bill yesterday which includes disturbing language indicating young people will be forced to undertake mandatory national service programs as fears about President Barack Obama’s promised “civilian national security force” intensify.
The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.
Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled “Duties,” in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Re: Slavery reinstated by the House today.
how is he planning on enforcing this and what is the punishment? Kids don't even listen to their parent these days (if their parents are even saying anything), what makes them think that they will listen to some politician?
Obama will see what the youth of America are made of, the feeling of entitlement

Re: Slavery reinstated by the House today.
This is a free nation, and I have the freedom to say, "No, thanks." If it is forced, well that is slavery, and the American people will fight back. (Hey, we fought back against an oppressive government and a war was started over slavery, so we could have another revolution here!)

You want a student loan do ya? Better sign up for GIVE... I see you haven't done your required time with GIVE. No unemployment for YOU! You get the point.

Back in the Khmer Rouge, we used to call them "Re-education Camps".

Re: Slavery reinstated by the House today.
Community service is punishment! It usually goes along with fines and probation.
What I want to know is, what was the crime?
Some of our youth might benefit from community service, some would not.
If you start with angry young people and force them to work for no compensation, you'll most likely have angrier young people.
If you have well adjusted young people fresh out of school and eager to start a career, then force them to work without compensation, you'll probably have angry young people not getting to start their life in the work force as planned.
And that's just one facet of this misguided "plan".
I don't have a short temper, I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.
