Coroner: Zion Grove shooting accidental

A Zion Grove man accidentally shot himself in his basement Thursday while cleaning his gun, Schuylkill County Coroner Joseph Lipsett said.

Relatives of Joseph O’Boyle, 55, of 194 Ridge Road, found him about 3:30 p.m. with a bullet wound in his chest and called 911. Lipsett confirmed the death to be an accidental shooting.

"He was cleaning his gun and it went off," said Lipsett, who investigated the incident and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Sounds like a cover up for a suicide. I've never seen a point where you'd have the gun facing you for cleaning.

Suicide? Based on what? Besides, a chest wound is not certain death and has to be a damn painful way to go if that was the intent.

I heard a radio show interview a guy from around here who tried to kill himself with a .380 to the chest. I think some people don't want to risk having half their face blown off and then having their family find them like that. Also if the attempt fails you could end up looking like that kid in the Judas Priest subliminal message deal who put a shotgun in his mouth and lived with his face missing.

If you commit suicide no life insurance , if staged as accident pay off . Just saying.
