Default Packing N. Carolina man shoots dog

    Packing is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    By Linda Reilly, Times Correspondent

UPPER DARBY — One of the two dogs that attacked a 9-year-old boy playing basketball was shot in the leg by a witness and later euthanized.

The American pit bulls, named Bubba and Jade, got out of their house 8:24 p.m. March 7 on the 200 block of Glendale Road. According to police, the two dogs attacked the boy while he was playing basketball in his driveway.

A bystander with a North Carolina concealed weapon permit fired several shots into the ground and shot the dog in the leg, police said. The dog was later euthanized. The youth, of the 7100 block of Locust Street, was able to get away.

The Glendale Road resident, 25, who scared off the dogs, was not charged.

The dogs’ owner, also of Glendale Road, was interviewed and admitted the dogs were aggressive and had gotten out when a relative opened the door.

The dog’s owner signed ownership of the pit bulls to an Upper Darby Township animal warden, who took custody of the dogs. Bubba was euthanized. Jade was transported to the SPCA for adoption.

Probably in the hope that they would startle the dogs away from the boy and that more wouldn't be needed.

might not have been able to shoot a dog and not hit the boy, so attempted warning shots first....?

I think I would have done the same, we weren't there. They could have been too close to the boy and the guy might have done it while he was getting close enough for a safe shot at the dogs.

Glad the guy isn't getting charged, but what's up with an agressive pit bull who charged a kid getting sent to the SPCA for adoption???

Are you crawling around in my head? I was thinking the same thing about the SPCA. Maybe that dog wasn't actively attacking the kid, but was just following along with the more dominant dog.
