small of back carry
Is this anyone's preferreed method of carry? I was at a shop out of town the other day and all 5-6 guys there were carrying IWB small-of-back, everything from snubbies to 1911 to what looked like a HK USPc. I hate IWB normally but this method looks like it could be comfortable. If anybody likes it I would like to know what kind of holster I should look for for a right handed draw, I assume palm-out would be quickest? Thanks!

This kind of carry has a big disadvantage in that if you happen to ever fall on your back, the gun can has the potential to cause a lot of damage to your spinal cord and vertebrae.
But still, some folks do like to carry that way.

I used to carry my .38 special snubnose in a $8 holster like that. It was not what I would call comfortable. But it was invisible.
Now I carry it outside the waistband in a normal holster. Much much more comfortable and much easier to draw. But not nearly as concealable. Still, for me it's a fair trade-off.

Re: small of back carry
Almost always. Most comfortable for me in most situations. Lumbar support seats are a bitch though. Check out a weak side SOB holster. You will draw with the back of your hand sliding down your back. Watch the draw or you will point it at yourself as you come around. Lesson I learned carrying SOB, don't buy a cheap holster. A hard formed holster is more comfortable than something soft like an Uncle Mikes. I just recommended High Noon holster on another thread. I have two and I like them a lot.

Re: small of back carry
If you decide to go with SOB - palm IN is the "correct" way to do it - palm OUT may seem more natural (it did to me) but the gun ends up pointing at your hip. Palm in ends up pointing at the ground as you bring it up to ready. I agree with the posts about back injury - and it's darn uncomfortable while driving. However if you are on your feet 90% of the time, this method may work for you - and your pants will fit better than strong-side iwb carry...
Just my 2 cents. Cb

Re: small of back carry
I carry my XD 9 Sub, IWB with a Crossbreed Supertuck almost at the SOB, but more over my right butt cheek. Like solrac7 said, I draw "palm-in" to avoid flagging my hip.
Also, imagine someone going for your gun...the amount of leverage and strength you have trying to retain your weapon "palm-in" far exceeds that if your "palm-out". Not to mention you would be in position for a mean arm bar, possibly resulting in shoulder damage and loss of control of your weapon.
I always try and imagine all scenarios!
