    Default Mag capacity for IDPA

I know you can only have 11 total rounds in your gun and each mag can only be loaded to 10 rds max, but can you use high capacity mags and only load the to 10 rds? My Glock has 17 rd mags and I don't want to have to buy 4 more ten rd mags just to shoot.

Yes, if your magazines physical capacity is higher than the division max, you just load to division capacity.

Like Warrior said, yes you can have high cap mags with only the division capacity amount of rounds loaded. My M&P mags are 17 rounders too.

    IDPA Division Capacity:
    One mag with 11rds
    Two mags with 10rds each

You can have as many mags as you want, that way you don't have to keep reloading mags. I take all eight of my mags, and load them up.

You can only have the max of 3 mags on you for each stage though.

Just remember that the gun still has to fit in the box to be legal. No problem with the Glock mags but something like McCormick 10 round 1911 mags ARE NOT LEGAL to use, even if downloaded because the gun will not fit in the box. At a local match they would probably let you use them if that was all you had but you would definitely NOT be using them at a major match.

Just make sure you only load as specified by COF. If you overload your mags. you could end up with a Failure To Do Right. That makes for a hard day.

    Yes, this is correct.
Most of the time it is division capacity, unless otherwise instructed by the SO.
You may have to have one mag loaded with 6 rounds or whatever the course of fire requires.. But they will tell you that.

    This is correct also..
IDPA requires that your gun be under a certain weight limit, and has to fit into their box with the lid closed.

If you are shooting a 1911 chambered in .45 (CDP), then you can only have 8rd mags. No magwell extensions or extended mags are permitted.

I use my 16 round magazines all the time. I just put the alotted amount of ammo in them.

And yes, I do mess up and put in one to many every so often. It is enough to p*ss me off. (That and the darn Texas Star)

Thanks for the info. I shot my fist match this weekend at Wilkesbarre Rifle and Pistol Club with my HK and I only had 10 rd mags so it wasn't an issue. I want to use a Glock 17 next time and I was just making sure before I bought more mags.
