First rifle purchase
So I've recently got back into shooting. Bought a pistol and now am thinking about a rifle. Grew up shooting .22's and the like for plinking. Also have several hours trigger time with m1 garand and m1a. I'm not really a AR or AK kind of guy and like the .308. Any recommendations are appreciated. Would like to spend less than $1500. Not for hunting, just targets and long range Zombie dispatching in a SHTF scenario.

Re: First rifle purchase
You can't go wrong with a Remington 700 - well under $1500, until you add glass, that is :-)

Re: First rifle purchase
If you want a good target gun, that could also be used as a SHTF gun.
Then you sir..... Need an AR.
Have you ever handled/fired one?ZRT -SECTOR-7

Re: First rifle purchase
If you want a bolt gun look at the Savage 12VSS usually sell for 4-700 around here. Mine will shoot way better than I can. In our opinion probably the most rifle for the dollar.

Re: First rifle purchase
M1A or SOCOM would be a good choice. The Garand with a mag and .308. These will take you to your $1500 budget limit though.

Re: First rifle purchase
I personally would go for a Springfield M1A if I was looking to spend up to $1500 on a rifle. But thats just me.

Re: First rifle purchase
A little bit of both is the Remington model 700 VSF. I own 1 in 308 and can shoot 1 inch groups at 200 yds right out of the box. You can shoot zoombies at long distance and pick em off at 100 yds. Price was about 800 and I put a Nikon 4.5 x 16 on it using Burris posi-align rings. Total was 1300 for the whole rig. It will also serve you well when you have to take a animal for MEAT.

Re: First rifle purchase
With that much just buy yourself like 10 Mosin Nagants and a couple thousand rounds of ammo. Kicks like a .308 but better. And with a bayonet the thing is almost 6 feet long. Keeps a Zombie at bay real good.
