Moving to Cecil, looking for a range/club
Hey everyone,
I'll be moving from monongahela to cecil pa this summer. My wife and I are just getting into recreational shooting (mainly pistols right now) and we are looking for advice for a good range/club in the area that we could join. We've been to Anthony's near century 3 and A&S near youngwood and they are both fine, but we'd like something closer to the washington area. We're also hoping to find more of a club atmosphere.
Thanks for any advice!

Welcome to the forum and, I keep singing along with the Tony Levin tune when I see your name. I would say like most people in the pittsburgh area, check out www.pmsconline.com and come out for a group shoot and check the club out. I live out near Robinson and I come to this club there is none like it in the Pittsburgh area, IMHO.

Re: Moving to Cecil, looking for a range/club
A friend I currently shoot with is presently locating information regarding the North Strabane Gun Club which apparently has an indoor and an outdoor range and reportedly requires an initiation fee or approximately $150, and a renewal fee of approximatley $30 yearly. At this point, this is only hearsay, and I have no further information. However, if anyone else is interested, I will keep you informed as I become more informed myself.

Re: Moving to Cecil, looking for a range/club
Dogthree,
Welcome to this area. I have shot at a small club in Monongahela (gotta think of the name)
Dormont /Mt. lebo is supposed to be a pretty nice club but it matters as to what you want in a club. Ask a lot of questions before joining.
My requirements for a club would include.
No magazine limitations (pistol and rifle)
Holster presentations allowed as well as wearing a pistol in a holster.
Shooting steel reactive targets
Shooting while moving (pistol and rifle)
multiple pistol bays (indoor is nice for Winter)
Some type of ongoing training available (NRA at the very least)
These are items I would like a club to have available to me.
Other clubs local to us.
McDonald Sportsman's club (600 yd rifle)
Coraopolis sportsmans club (100 yd rifle)
Forest Grove sportsmans club(100 yd rifle)
Collier sportsmans club (too restrictive for me)
I'm not sure about Library sportsmans club ( I have no info on this)
There are a couple other clubs in Meadowlands ( ?? )and one in Washington fairgrounds parking lot.
Having posted all that, I chose to drive to Monroeville to join Pitcarin/Monroeville sportsmans club.
This is by far one of the best equipped, least restrictive, least expensive clubs around.
My No. 1 choice.
I used to live in Gladden. Not too far from Cecil.

Re: Moving to Cecil, looking for a range/club
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got a list going now, and once we start to get moved out there will definitely check some of them out.
Just from trying to use google maps, I was getting worried that there were not many options, but it seems like I was totally wrong!
Thanks!

I realize that this thread is old, but you might want to look into McDonald Sportsman's Club.
