PICS check said need more research
anyone know what this means?
I gave my drivers license id # and my ss #
I cant think of a reason why it would come up "needs more research" the sheriff was on the phone/hold a long time then explained to me what happened.
has this happened to anyone or can anyone help me out with what might be going on?
No license for me just yet....

Re: PICS check said need more research
Cause yer a criminal????
Sorry Had to do that!
From what I have seen it's usually either your name or SSN is very close to someone who is prohibited, or something on their end is incomplete. The actualy FFL holders here can better explain, so I will defer to them. Not time to get worried yet, but I can understand the frustration. As long as you can truthfully state that you haven't committed any of the disqualifying crimes you should be fine.

Re: PICS check said need more research
As has been discussed here before...PICS operators may be busy and just put you into research until they catch up, you may have a common name or similar Soc. Sec # to a prohibited person, the system may be down for a few minutes. One of those is probably your answer

Re: PICS check said need more research
It happened to me. I was ok'd then denied then ok'd. The day the letter came that said I was denied, I recieved a phone call from the sheriff saying I was approved and I went and got it (LTCF). I just went through a trial a couple of weeks before I applied. It was for a D.U.I I won the case and guess It was all the paper work that had to go through. So, are YOU a criminal.

Re: PICS check said need more research
When someone undergoes a PICS check (for a LTCF or a gun purchase) more than one computer database is searched. If any of them does not reply in a certain time frame (could be caused by a high volume of queries going to that database, server down, etc.) a flag is raised and it will go into research until the operator can query and receive a response from that database. Also, if your name/SSN/DL#/other is very close to someone who has been denied, etc. it again will raise a flag until the operator can complete the checks.

Re: PICS check said need more research
I was at walmart this past weekend and there were two people, one right after the other, who were denied fishing licenses because the system info didn't match.
I would call and get it straightened out ASAP, and also get a credit report to see if you've got anything suspicious going on. One of the girls knew someone used her social to get a cell phone and figured it was straightened out with sprint or whoever...but hearing that she couldn't get a fishing license made her pretty nervous that something else was going on too.
Don't let much time pass before you tackle this.

Re: PICS check said need more research
I just want to say that I was approved the following day. One of the sheriffs saw that there were a few people who went into research and figured it was because of a slow system. During some of this persons down time he went ahead and "got in touch w/ the state" and got all the applications approved and mailed them out.
My card is in the mail and I should have it today or tomorrow.
Thanks for all the replies.

You should call this person who did that and give him a "Thanks!"
