I admire your patience Jah. Always have. But I would have told him he would never see me in there again.

You're a regular. He knows it's legal. Yet he supports an old lady (I'm old too) who can't mind her own business?

Your wife must have a LOT of patience as well! LOL!

    <disclaimer> Not faulting Jah </disclaimer>

I've never been asked to cover, and I've never been asked to leave, so this is my *inexperienced* and speculative opinion.

I'd rather leave. But before I did I would reply to the manager that I will not cover so some busy body, who already knows I'm armed (duh) wants to have her way with me. As such, he will have to ask me to leave or tell her to mind her own business (or leave) ... And see which he chooses. Being a regular would make me more inclined to do so.

Wow, Alex. When you have a bad day, you really have a bad day!

Too bad an old lady had to ruin your time with your old lady. Glad to hear another guy came up to you to offer support.

today was a particularly brutal day at work today. everything, everything, hurts, down to my hair follicles. my dearest one didn't have a great day, either, and was just going to get Mickey Dee's for the kids, but i'm sick of burgers, so i took everyone to the OCB.

we sat in peace for most of our meal. at one point, Anna was up getting a another dish, when an older couple, in their 60's or 70's began to stare at me and the kids. the lady leaned over, and said, "your gun. it's showing."

i smiled, and replied, "oh, i know." i turned back to my youngest, who wasn't feeling too hot, and checked to see if she had eaten any of her jello.

"well, why don't you cover that up!" the old lady remarked, loudly. a few other diners looked over at us, while her husband sat there smiling, arms crossed, looking rather smug.

"ma'am," i said, "what i'm doing is legal. also, i work a lot of long hours during the week, and break my body, so i have the money to take my family out for a nice dinner. i like to do so without being bothered, so..."

"well, it's you're bothering me!" she yelled.

i just sat and stared, in disbelief. 'your face is bothering me', kept pushing at my jaws, but i didn't say it. i...didn't...say...it. i just frowned, and turned away from her, back to my kids.

"why did that lady yell at you dad?" asked my youngest.

"because she's old, and mean, and angry that no one likes her."

she must have heard me, because she huffed loudly.

Anna walked over. "what's going on now?" i explained what was going on to her. she turned red, and her lip curled into a snarl. "jeezy shit christ..."

yeah, she wasn't too happy with me.

we continued eating, in relative silence. the older couple got up and left, without finishing their meal. i had covered up at this point, because Anna asked me to.

the manager tiptoed over to us. i already knew what was coming, so i just smiled at him.

    "hi, sir, how is everything?"

"everything was fine, until that old lady sitting there starting harassing me."

"i'm sorry about that. here's the thing: because of what happened last time, our store policy is, if anyone complains, we have to ask you to either cover it up, or leave it in your car. i'm very sorry, but we just want to avoid any further...incidents?

"so if i say i can't cover it, for, let's say, legal reasons, i have to leave?"

"no! you just have to lock it up in your car, is all. i wouldn't have bothered you, but some people, besides that lady, approached me about it. i told her i'd ask you about it, but she decided she was leaving, anyway. again, i'm very sorry to bother you."

"no problem. at least you were polite about it."

"thank you sir. i hate bothering you about this; i know you're a regular here, and there's not usually a problem." he slinked off, looking a little ashamed.

i looked over at Anna, who was still not pleased. we finished our desserts, and left.

    PS - i just remembered....

right after the old bag got done ranting at me, i got up to get another portion of steak. a guy walked over to me, and asked, "are you the guy that old lady was hassling over your gun?"

    "yeah," i shrugged.

"she's got nothing better to do? that's your right to do that. you weren't bothering anyone there."

"don't i know it. there's always someone who feels the need to ruin my day."

"ah, forget her. keep doing what you do."

    "thanks, man."

It amazes me......it really does......if you are really that afraid of someone with a gun....WHY CONFRONT THEM????? this line of thinking really boggles my mind.....good thing I keep duct tape handy...I get tired of pickin my brain off the keyboard.

My apologies, my comment was not clear.

I am *inexperienced* in dealing with a request to leave or cover.... in that I have never been asked to leave or cover, out of hundreds, maybe thousand or so OC days out...
