.22 Rifle Competition
I'm pretty new around here and have never done any competitive shooting, but was wondering what I need to look for to shoot my Marlin 39a competitively. Anything going on in the near future in the eastern half of the state?

Re: .22 Rifle Competition
It is nice to read about another person who loves the old marlin 39a. I don't know of any rimfire matches up your way, and typically the rimfire matches are geared towards the full blown match guns like the anshutz, walther, etc. (heavy bull barrels, match sights, etc.) The CMP offers a rimfire sporter matches that are geared towards the sporter class of .22. ( marlin, ruger, CZ) Here is a link that might help you out: http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions.htm
There are sanctioned rimfire sporter matches all around the country, and I usually check their listing once or twice a month to see if anything local pops up. There are also some clubs that offer "fun shoots" that cater to the .22 The club I belong to has one a month in the summer. They use .22 rifle and pistols to break clay pigeons, and steel targets and you compete with others for braqgging rights, and it is what it is ... a fun shoot.

How far away from southern Chester county are you?
Here is my 39A with an equally vintage weaver scope. At 50 yards I can usually group 1"
Love this old gun.
I believe it is from 1950 something.
Peter.
PM me if you are close to Chester county

Re: .22 Rifle Competition
Who needs a full blown modern target gun to have one that is very accurate? I have my grandfather's Savage NRA 23a with his original Unertl glass on it. It puts most new .22lr rifles to shame. I will upload some pics when I make it home. I would also be interested in finding a rimfire shoot near the Greater pittsburgh area.

Re: .22 Rifle Competition
I don't know alot about competative shooting but my father used to shoot 22 in competition. Those rifles are a whole different animal. They shoot a bullseye that is the same diameter as a 22 round. He was pretty good I guess, he had 8 or 10 medals. The rifle he used wieghed 22 lbs. 22X unertal scope. It was impressive to hold. Heavy SOB.

Re: .22 Rifle Competition
Depends by your definition of competition. At falls township we have an indoor silhoutte match every Thursday night starting at 6:00 PM. We shoot at 25 yards at scaled down chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams. Only .22 LR rifles or pistols, open sights or scoped. You can also use .17, .20, or .22 caliber air rifles or pistols. Great fun and a fanatastic social event.
Non-members welcome. If anyone is interested PM me for details and directions.

Check out Ontalauntee Gun Club. I have been to a few block shoots a couple years ago and they used to have .22 shoots in the basement while the block shoot was going on. Ontalauntee is South of Tamaqua off of 309. Not too far from Haven.
