wondering if a xdm9 is agod choice for a "plastic gun"? does it compair to the glock? is it just preference? i like the 19+1. does that make the gun super large? i have meat hooks for hands. what is retail if anyone knows?

XD's are a great gun... I have a .40 Sub compact and the high cap clip fits my hand just fine... My hands are big as well...
Love the gun! Go to a local gun shop and ask to hold one... see how she fits...

thanks for the welcome. last saturday i looked and held one, it felt pretty good. it might even feel better with the different size grip inserts. couldn't remember if the frame was over sized.

just wondering if any one had good/bad experinces with them? also how they compaired to the glocks-more than likely perference?

sorry about the spelling, i cant down load the spell check. (at work, the bloody web filter)

XDs are great guns, just make sure it fits your hands. My first gun was an XD9 but I'm pretty tall and thin and it just never fit my hands well. There was always some gap between my hand and the top of the tail area...always got more muzzle flip and worse groupings with it.

My Glock 19 and Sig229 fit me much better.

But by no means am I saying they're bad...they're great guns. Just compare their fit to something like a Glock as well.

The new XD M have a 19 round mag as you pointed out which is pretty cool.

The only other "bad" thing I could say about XDs is that I find their slide noticeably more difficult to rack than say a Glock.

I think the XDm is an excellent choice. I almost went that route but opted instead for the M&P9. Around here they go for about $610 though I believe they can be had about $30 cheaper via the internet.

I own an XDm 9 and love it!

It fits my hand better than Glocks and most other handguns I've sampled. I like the grip angle, weight, and balance. It shoots VERY well, has a reputation for great reliability. And it has a number of features which I find important to me. I paid around $570 for black on black IIRC.

As far as those features go, In addition to the trigger safety it has a
    Palm safety
    Loaded chamber indicator
    Striker status indicator
XDM does not need to be dry fired in order to remove the slide

Now you may see some members of the Church of Glock dis the firearm for the above "features." But as as a matter of personal preference - I find them to be of value to me.

I just ordered an MTAC holster for it. Hopefully I will be able to conceal it well enough.

I also own an XDm 9mm and it's a fantastic gun.

For the longest time I refused to have any handgun but my 1911, but the XDm is actually my new fav. Only thing I'm still a little bit unsure of is the lack of a safety lever. Otherwise, I'm loving every aspect of it. Shoots really nice and once I got used to the trigger pull I was nailing down pretty tight groupings.

I'm a shameless fanatic for mods and gun-bling in general, so I've polished the feed ramps with a gentle metal polish, replaced the OEM guide rod with a stainless steel guide rod, and painted the SA logo on the top of the slide:

I may get tritium sights at some point, but we'll see.

I love my xdm 9. It comes with three backstraps to change the size of the grip to fit any size hand. LOVE IT. Way better than those junky glocks! Yeah I said it. Just kidding I have a glock 17. I like it but it is like a cavalier compared to a vett. IMHO! The xdm has the smallest amount of trigger pull and reset of any production handgun and holds 19+1. Take that!
