anyone tell me what this big bullet thing is?

i got this from my grandpa a long time ago. it looks like a large military bullet of some sort. no writing is on it, it has threads on the inside of it . its about 6" long and about 1.5" wide solid steel with 2 copper or brass rings at bottom.. i dunno what it is but its old

That's an old Miniature Nuclear Warhead from WWII. I hope that's not your hand it is in, or it will be falling off right about now.

if it's solid, i'm guessing something around a 37 -40mm anti tank round.

If it's not a bullet, could be a finial for a steam whistle, or a weight for a clock, or a (gigantic) plumb level. Obviously, I have no idea.

that would have been to fill it and thread the fuze on.
i was thinking it was shot, but apparently it's a shell.
don't think it's anti armour now....has no hardened nose cap.

Yeah looks like an anti tank round. They fill it with explosive and an impact detonator I believe. My dad had a few relics like that. Who knows where the hell they are.

It looks like a 40mm Bofors from an anti-aircraft weapon.

I have a few demilled casings with projectiles down at my parent's place down in FL - one of which looks like that one.

not impact.
the impact set the fuze so it went off inside.
they were fuzed on the back side though.
early anti tank rounds were pretty crude by todays standards.

think its worth anything or jst a shelf weight.. id like to figure out exacly how old it is
