Asteriod near-miss to earth!
Damn thing missed the earth by only 45,000 miles.
Do you think an impact like this could have started a SHTF scenario? Would it be enough to wake up zombies?

That's funny!
For those wanting to know what the impact would be this is a simulator that lets you input all sorts of fun data and spits out the grim results, enjoy.

Re: Asteriod near-miss to earth!
From what I've read, this asteroid was about the same size as the one that struck Serbia in the early 1900's. This wasn't a TEOTWAWKI event, obviously. Of course, depending on where the asteroid landed, it could definitely be a SHTF event with about 800 square miles of devastation. This thing was only 60-150 feet in diameter, I believe that the last "planet killer" asteroid to impact earth was a 6 mile wide roid that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Re: Asteriod near-miss to earth!
I think you are referring to the Tunguska event in 1908. There have been some interesting shows on History channel about that. The theory is it exploded in the atmosphere, 3 to 6 miles above ground. Either way, the outer edge of your 800 sq miles would probably be a SHTF experience, but I'm betting towards the middle, the people won't be "caring" as much

Re: Asteriod near-miss to earth!
I spent some time foolin' with that calculator. Thanks for posting it.
Interesting results; it appears that a 150' asteroid wouldn't cause all that much havoc outside the immediate area.
BUT....it's not something I ever want to see within 1000 miles of where I am!!!

Re: Asteriod near-miss to earth!
If it would have landed in downtown NYC or LA, it would probably really shake up the next election.
