Default 6.5 MM Carcano, did I get the right Ammo?

    Citing this thread:

Magazines & Ammo for a 6.5mm Carcano M91 Moschetto da Cavalleria (cavalry carbine)

I purchased 2 boxes of PRVI PARTIZAN 6,5x52 Carcano (yes, Six Comma Five) Ammunition and 2 clips. The clips seem to fit right, and the rounds themselves seem to fit in the chamber correctly. The barrel of the rifle itself is stamped "CAL 6.5"

However, when i was looking at a round, and then looking at the end of the barrel, it seemed the bullet was a tad wide for the barrel.

Sure enough, the the bullet itself (the copper/lead part the sticks outside of the shell) doesn't fit into the open end of the barrel (near the front sight). the diameter of the bullet is too wide, not by much, but enough so that only half the length of the bullet fits before the taper gets too big.

I'm used to .45 ACP which fits into the barrel neatly. I'm very new to this rifle (Ive never fired it), and don't want to try to fire ammo in it that is too big. I know the heat of firing the round will distort the bullet, and the 2 places I found online that listed this rifle said this is the ammo, but now I'm nervous about using the ammo and the rifle it at all, because I never heard of using ammo of a diameter bigger than the opening of the barrel.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

    Thanks.

    it's all good.
if the bullet fit in the bore, the barrel would be shot out.
that's the way it works with any gun....other than shotguns and smoothbore muskets.

it's the same way with your .45.
a fresh bullet will not fit in the bore.
it's only metal, we can out think it....

Ditto to what brian said... the bullet pretty much gets "gouged" along the rifling which is what makes it spin. It's supposed to that tight of a fit.

Oh, and don't worry about the comma, it's silly Europeans being goofy with their decimals. It's often the case that some countries use "," instead of "."
