Gerlach's earmarks
So I'm finishing up graduate school this spring and I'm going to start getting more involved in local politics. I am a pretty strong conservative and I've been very frustrated by the Republican party for the last several years as they've run up government spending and earmarks (and then wonder why they got drummed out of office). I decided this will be my opening salvo and I present US Rep. Jim Gerlach's earmarks from the 2009 Omnibus spending bill.

Rep. Jeff Flake (R, AZ) tried to request an ethics investigation into the relationship between campaign contributions and earmarks, but it was killed rather quickly. We need to push to have this sort of thing brought up again and again until the earmarks stop or the investigations go through.Last edited by Jelanen; March 3rd, 2009 at 04:36 PM.

Re: Gerlach's earmarks
Yeah. They got my money from the VA. Then they got my money for two daughters. The tuition keeps going up but we aren't seeing any advances in quality. Sorry. Rant off!
Politics is all about getting elected. Once elected, you spend the rest of the time trying to get reelected. Reelection is based on how much pork you bring back to your district.
I certainly aren't trying to discourage you from going for it. It's the old boy system. You play ball or you get relegated to some stupid committee studying why cows crap after eating hay....
If Flight 91 would have made it's destination, we would not be having this discussion.....
Good luck!
