    Default Need 1911 help..

So I picked up a Colt Delta Elite 10mm...It's in pretty bad shape so I figured I'd get to work on it, I just took her apart and there is a shorter thinner spring inside the actual spring....it is not attached in anyway, it looks like someone just jammed it in there, now the gun is tight as hell....almost too tight. Could this be the cause, or is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

I hope you didn't pay too much for that Delta. The main problem was the recoil system Colt used. Unless the factory one was immediately switched out for something beefier, then the frame was liable to crack in very short order. From what I have seen, Colt's frames are only spot heat treated near the slide release hole.

Google Delta Elite, someone long ago figured out a better recoil setup. Maybe this guy's inner and out spring is that setup. Make sure you use a recoil pad and check out what other gun companies use in their 10mm guns.

I would call Kimber, or another 10mm maker and ask to buy their spring system. Colt's factory one was its main weakness. The gun's are fine, the recoil setup was just too weak.

I love 10mm 1911's, hope you enjoy yours.
