XD45C VS XD 45 SERVICE.
I know the barrel lengths are the same and the grips are about a half inch different from each other but really, do you think that there is a big difference if you CC either one? I don't see the difference but a few people i know keep saying its a big difference..for the record i have held both.

Big difference.

I feel it but I have big hands. My little finger hangs over on the Bobbited grip.

Re: XD45C VS XD 45 SERVICE.
I have first hand exp.
I have a service, and had the chance to handle a sub.
Mags are different, grip length is different.
Barrel length is different.

Re: XD45C VS XD 45 SERVICE.
Definate difference when you carry IWB all day long.
I use the 10 Rd mag for carry and the spare 13 Rd mag as backup.
Grip is only about 3/4 inch longer, but clearly visible printing with the 13. Doesn't affect my control of the weapon.
Longer barrel would poke me when sitting or driving...Just like the Beretta 92 I used to carry.
It is a great weapon!

Re: XD45C VS XD 45 SERVICE.
fingers, i think you might be thinking of two different models (maybe the XDm?). I own an xd-45c (compact) and an xd-45 service. Both have exactly the same length barrel and both us the same mags. Well, that isn't entirely true, the xd-45c can use the shorter 10 round mag that sits flush with the bottom of the grip. But, you can use the longer 13rnd mag (used in the service model) with a spacer---effectively making the grip the same length as the service model. When you buy the compact, you get one shorter 10 round mag and one longer 13rnd mag with grip spacer--to fill in the gap where the grip ends.
OP, since i own both, i would say go with the compact---then you have the option to use the longer 13rnd mags and spacer---making it just like the service model---or you can choose to use the 10rnd mag and have a slightly shorter grip---going with the compact gives you 2 guns in one.Last edited by Guns4Fun; March 2nd, 2009 at 10:35 PM.

Re: XD45C VS XD 45 SERVICE.
Pretty sure there is no XD45 Service model.
There is the
XD45 Tactical, 5 inch bbl.
XD45 Compact, 4inch bbl. Grip between full size platform and subcompact.
XD45 Subcompact, 3 inch bbl, short grip.
For all other XD calibers the tactical and service model grips are the same length. and only the subcompact has a shortened grip.
IE, XD Tactical, XD Service, XD Subcompact.
