Topics I've read showing up as unread

After reading a thread that I've subscribed to, it still shows up in the "unread" subscribed threads area of the CP. Also, if I close the browser and re-open it, the threads show up, not only in the unread part of my CP, but they show up as unread (bolded), despite the fact that I just read them minutes ago and the last post was over an hour ago.

Any ideas why this happens?

I don't believe they stop showing as "unread" until your browsing session ends.

They show as "read" (non-bold font) in the new subscribed threads or whatever part of my CP, but when I close the browser and open it again, they are coming up as "Unread" again, despite not having any new posts.

My guess is that there is some amount of lag involved to prevent the database from coming to a grinding halt as it compares every thread in the system to the last time you visited for every user on the site.
