Unhappy Bob's Gun Shop Indoor Range Completely Destroyed

I stopped out to see Bob over the weekend and was surprised to find that the indoor range was completely destroyed. The roof had collapsed and taken all the walls out. The only thing left is the cement slab. I feel terrible for him.

He estimates the costs to replace the range at 400k+, and insurance is only going to cover about 280k of that, leaving him with a 120k gap that needs to be filled.

Bob's indoor range was absolutely the best in our area, and I wonder if we should start a fundraiser to help him out. I know 120K is a lot of money, but perhaps we can make a dent in it.

    Thoughts?

Def not from that area...and just...DAMN.

I'd see how much of that 400k is labor and see if a work-party type thing could be organized by the shops patrons.

~200K of it was just for the steel. I'll try and get some pics up later today.

Yeah I figured a lot would be armor type material for safety reasons.

Sorry to hear about it, been there once and he was a nice guy.

I didn't see 400K worth of range though!

    wait...

How badly could the existing steel have been destroyed in order to warrant completely new steel? I mean...it's armored steel that handles projectiles going realllly really fast.

I'd wager to guess that the damage was appraised on the high side.

Organizing a work party for removal of damaged material, scrapping what steel IS destroyed for $$ and re using as much armored plate as possible should reduce costs a lot.

I have a relative that lives in that neck of the woods. He loves Bob! He buys everything from him. We went there once to shoot. He seems like a great guy.

Wow... this plain sucks. I used to shoot there all the time. Best indoor range in the region.

I'd be willing to put some time in if need be. Keep me posted.

Bob's had a tough go lately. After losing Donna a couple months ago and now this. I don't know how he stays sane. He's got a lot of good friends and family so I think he'll be fine in time.
The backstop was damaged beyond repair. The new stop he's looking at is made by Savage and it's expensive. It's also a lot better than the old one from what he tells me.

Doug, if I know Bob at all, I'd say he's a stubborn, proud man that might balk at anything he thinks might be charity but I'd pitch a in some cash, time or both. I'm not much of an organizer but what do you think of a range membership drive?

How did this happen? Was this from the weather or something? Sad to hear about good ranges disappearing.
