Do demilled drill rifles need to ship via FFL if sold?
I have a demilled 1903A3 drill rifle. Barrel is plugged, magazine switch welded, bolt is plugged and welded, synthetic stock, no rear sight...
I decided to sell it and put the money toward a real shooting 1903. If I sell it on GB.com, does it need to go through an FFL? I see drill rifles there that need to go through an FFL but I thought I saw Sarco ad in Shotgun News where their drill 1903's ($300+ though) do not need to go through an FFL.
Any 2 cents? Thanks a lot. -victor

If its truly demilled, its no longer a firearm and can be shipped like any other unregulated thing.

I had one of these when I was on a drill team in the Navy. We had bayonets on them too.

I think that ATF wants to see at least 2 saw or torch cuts that remove a minimum amount of material from the serialized part, the receiver. At least, that's what it takes to "destroy" an NFA firearm, I haven't seen the issue come up in other contexts.
"Deactivated" isn't as destructive as "destroyed". A deactivated firearm is still a firearm, which is why DEWATs can be re-activated, often with just a barrel replacement.
So far as carriers like USPS or UPS are concerned, they may have their own rules about guns, gun parts, and deactivated gun parts.
