From California to PA
Is there anything I need to do when moving from California to PA.
I have a handgun.
Any registration or anything?
Also is there a wait time in PA like we have in CA when buying handguns??
Thanks

Re: From California to PA
There is nothing you need to do, no registration, nothing..
There isn't a waiting period either on purchases. Just fill out the 4473(and PSP form for handguns), wait for dealer to do instant check, pay the man, walk out with guns in hand.
Once you establish residency, apply at your county Sheriff's office for a License To Carry Firearms. ...easy procedure, cheap $25-50, and some Sheriff's offer over the counter licenses.

Welcome to the Commonwealth. If you like guns you will like it here. Where do you intend to settle?
I moved here from Garden Grove when I retired. It's like a different country unless you move to Philadelphia.
Get the handy gun rights flyer. Good stuff and good links.
No waiting periods. No Magazine limits. No AWB. Once you get your LTCF you will find there are very few places you can't carry. PA is an open carry state.

Re: From California to PA
it will be somewhere between Harrisburg and York.
I have not found anything I'm moving in about 3 weeks.
If any know of a place to rent on the country side let me know.
I have 2 dogs.
Don't have to be big or it can also be a mobile home.

Re: From California to PA
yes, several things.
1. buy several standard capacity (often called "hi-cap") magazines for your handgun.
2. buy a carry holster for your handgun (and see the post above that suggests getting your LTCF)
3. start shopping for an AR-15, AK-47, M1, SKS, FAL, or other "assault weapon" of your choice.

How are you coming out? Weather can be a bitch depending on season if you're driving. I drove back out here after 3 years in Sacramento, and it was a beautiful drive in may.

Re: From California to PA
One thing to be aware of about buying a gun here in PA you could possibly run into. If you have a common last name, or if the background check phone operators are busy, you could be put into research and it could take a few hours or days before you are approved.
Usually it only take a few minutes.
If for some reason you are not approved, you must file an appeal within 30 days.
The background check is called PICS, Pennsylvania Instant Check System.
Welcome to the forum and to PA, when you do get here

I would add it would be wise to wait until you have your PA drivers license to buy firearms. It will make proof of residence much easier.
