Need help with choosing a shotgun....
So are there any females or maybe you guys know what kind of shotguns your wives prefer because i'm pretty small and can't lug around a huge shotgun for trap shooting. Any suggestions? Make, models, gauge? Thanks a bunch...

Re: Need help with choosing a shotgun....
I know one of our female group shooters has a really nice remington 870 20ga.
It's either a youth model or womans model because it has a shorter stock.
My EX really liked shotguns but she had a full size 12 gauge.

Re: Need help with choosing a shotgun....
My wife tried the 20 gauge Remington 870 Express in both Youth and Standard models. She's 5' 9" and the Youth was too small for her. Try both and see which one fits better. It is a good entry-level gun. Trap is a 12 gauge sport, but my wife does fine with a 20 gauge. I don't think she'd enjoy it half as much with a 12 gauge.

Re: Need help with choosing a shotgun....
I asked this same question a while back, but I'm a guy. 5'4 and maybe 140 lbs so I wondered what I could handle. As it turns out, I ended up with a Mossberg 500 12 gauge, and stuck a bantam stock on it. Fits me perfectly, and the recoil isn't anything to worry about. Cost me $230 at Dick's for the shotgun and $30 on ebay for the stock. Have had it out 4 or 5 times now and it's fantastic. I'm able to shoot 50-100 shells in an afternoon with no issues whatsoever, I'm really happy with this combo.

My wife bounces back and forth between a Rem. 870 12ga. trap and a Rem. 1100. If the gun fits the 12 ga. trap load is very comfortable. She has shot as many as 200 rds. in a trap schooling session.

My Mother has a Stevens 311 .410 double barrel. She has been shooting a .410 since she hunted with her Father as a young girl. DON'T piss her off.

Re: Need help with choosing a shotgun....
Trap load has minimal recoil, I'd say to go with a 12 whatever you do.

Blue Ridge Cherry Vally Rod and Gun has a monthly trap shoot. There are usually several lady shooter who house me and my Mossber 500. It might be worth your while to spend a Sunday at the club and ask the lady shooter there what they would suggest.
