How many rounds make a stash.
Taking into consideration that it is getting increasingly more difficult to find plentiful ammo on local store shelves, what would you say is the bare-minimum number of rounds you need to have stored on hand per gun.
Regardless of how much I shoot, I like to keep a minimum of 200 rounds per gun sitting on the shelf.

Re: How many rounds make a stash.
My ammo safe is a lot bigger than my gun safe.
I have no other comment.

200 rnds , hell thats what I buy a week.. I like to have at least 2000 rnds per gun. Best thing to do is buy ammo every paycheck. Unless of course you get that great deal! I'm getting 5.56 at 125.00 per 500 rnds. I just ordered 100 rnds of Match .308 which I order once a month. Thats ammo thats hard to find on the shelves. Speaking of which, I was out and about today and two Wallymarts had barely a box or two.
Basspro and Cabelas prices are just getting crazy. Time to rethink that reloading press..

Re: How many rounds make a stash.
Depends on how much you shoot. But I think a two year supply of both range and carry ammo is a good basic amount for most of us. At one time I might have said 6 months to a year was ok. But the current situation shows the wisdom of having enough to hopefully ride out some shortages. Now if you are a big time IDPA shooter then a two year supply may be excessive to store.

I like SportsmansGuide.com for ammo...
I've been on slow accumulation mode for a while. I currently have over 2000 rounds in the calibers that I shoot. About 80% of that is target ammo and the remainder is various forms of defense ammo.
I've been picking up an extra box here and there when I see good deals...

Re: How many rounds make a stash.
I keep at least 1000 loaded rounds on hand, ready to go for every centerfire caliber I use,and at least 5000 rounds of 22 long rifle. Also have very ample supply of powder, primers and bullets for everything.

Re: How many rounds make a stash.
This is an excellent question.......
I'd also like to know how many Target rounds vs personnel protection ammo people are keeping on hand..............
My theory…….If the SHTF…..target rounds will do……….

.22 should not be overlooked as a mass comodity to have on hand. Everything else should fall into really really long distance ammo, really long, pretty long, uh oh long, I wish I was a better long range shooter medium, appearently at this distance you better have a bunch close range ammo, and finally rocks.
I keep more rocks than anything.
