Shooting at Duquesne University (Pittsburgh)
Wow...what a night!
I'm leaving class to meet my commuting buddy and I decide to make a pitstop. When we walk out, cops galore are swarming the main parking lot between Forbes and Locust.
No one stopped us, so we went in, got in our car and started heading out. We saw cops everywhere. When we got down to the third floor, there were a dozen cops talking with three teens, obviously gathering info.
When we got to the gate, the whole garage was on lockdown. We asked what was going on - it turns out there was a shooting (at the teens we saw earlier). We were stuck for 40 minutes as the police chased bad guys, swept the garage, called in SWAT, swept the garage, and gathered all the info they needed.
No one was hit. At least two were in custody.
Wild stuff. I have five years at Duquesne (three for master's degree, two for PhD so far) and I've never been this close to this kind of crap.
Ironically, if I didn't stop at the rest room, my friend and I might have been in the middle of the shooting.
I'm still waiting for my LCTF...six more days. It can't come quick enough.

Re: Shooting at Duquesne University (Pittsburgh)
I finally got an official Duquesne notification. Just in time!
Students and Employees:
On Thursday, February 26 at approximately 7:15 p.m., two armed 15 year-old
suspects robbed three victims at gunpoint on the third floor of the Forbes
garage. There were NO INJURIES.
Duquesne University police officers heard the shots and responded
immediately. The suspects were apprehended within minutes after a short
foot chase. Neither the suspects nor the victims are Duquesne University
students. The victims were attending the W.P.I.A.L. high school
basketball city league playoffs.
NOTE: A DU Alert was in process when the suspects were caught by police.
The alert was cancelled because the suspects were caught within minutes
and the danger was eliminated once they were in custody.

Re: Shooting at Duquesne University (Pittsburgh)
I saw the news coverage.
It was like a manhunt for someone who attempted to take out a city official or something.
The perps were too effing stupid to rob someone where the entire police force wasn't already on site for security detail. Haha
Glad nobody was hurt and I'd like to say I'm glad they caught the criminals, but alas, 15 year old criminals get tossed back so they can grow into bigger criminals, so it really was pointless to catch them in the first place.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Yeah, those were basically my brother's sentiments. He's currently a student there. He actually had his Explorer parked in the garage and was warded off as well. He called me to tell me and I immediately checked www.duq.edu but saw nothing. Then in the quoted article above "the alert was cancelled" blah blah blah. That's just bs; and half-assed damage control on the lack of alert issue. Typical Duquesne... They were even more into covering up stuff than my alma mater just a little further up the street at 5000 Forbes Avenue.

You're right. I read it three times and didn't catch that. Perhaps it was the blind rage that they sent the alert 2.25 hours AFTER it happened. Perhaps it was because they simply mentioned in passing.
This thug with the gun was firing blindly as the victims scattered. Parking garages are noting but steel and sloped concrete...ricochet city!

Re: Shooting at Duquesne University (Pittsburgh)
I was listening to this go down, and I just have to point something out... no one called SRT. SRT was doing training exercises and was already assembled, heard the call for shots fired at the university and responded on their own volition
But yeah, it was an interesting call... I was quite surprised when I heard it go out, and it was really something to follow along with.
Kudos to the City and Campus police who were able to apprehend the suspects quickly, and thank [whatever deity you believe in] that no one was hurt!
