    Question Leave gun in car?

I was just wondering if it is legal to leave a gun in the car?

I hate to go anywhere without a carry piece. however, as a student, I am "forbidden" to do so on school property.

My question is whether or not I would be in legal trouble if I simply left the gun in the car while in class, etc.???

What about the same situation at church? I feel kinda funny carrying in there, but don't know if it is ok to leave the gun in the car?

    Thanks for the input.

    First, IANAL.
Yes, you can leave the gun in the car. I would, however, go as far as to say that it is not a good thing to do, as the gun can be stolen from the car, then your gun is in a criminal's hands.
For me, I would NOT do this.

If you're going to leave a firearm in a car, get a gun safe designed for use in a car.

As for church, why wouldn't you want to carry there? Bad things happen in churches:

    Is it legal? Yes.

    Is it wise? Probably not.

in the case where I have no choice, I lock my ammo in my glove box, and my gun in a locked case, which is then locked in my trunk in a lockable compartment. (Nice feature I found on my wife's 1992 Taurus S/W).

I'm going to be picking up a pistol safe for the car I'm planning on buying soon (2002 Dodge Neon). Unfortunately, the glove box isn't lockable though, so I might end up buying a second drawer-type lockbox I can secure under the front seat.

    Just a suggestion for you.

    Stay safe,

    I knew that was coming...
Yes, I know that bad things happen in church, and we have a security group... It just feels weird to me. and I usually where a suit and get too hot halfway through and want to take it off. kinda hard to hide a 1911 champ in slacks and a dress shirt

i did forget to mention that... it would be locked in the glovebox.
i did not know that they made discrete gun safes for cars though. I will have to check it out.

I generally keep a spare gun in my glove box in case I walk out the door without my usual carry gun.

I haven't looked at the other thread, but I never walk away from my car without making sure all 4 doors are locked and the windows are up.

If a criminal breaks my window and steals my gun I will honestly not loose a wink of sleep over it. If he uses it to kill somebody then I'll sleep like a baby.

If you forcefully break into my property and steal from me then it's all on you.
