New weapon w/targets, looking for advise

Ihave recently purchased a S&W 9mm handgun.

I have not fired a weapon for 30+ years.

I'm hoping that someone will look-over the below link of targets and give me some additional ideas what may help to improve my accuracy.

HUMOR is OK and fun, but constructive feedback is REALLY appreciated


notes:
My arms began to tire half-way through so I'm interested in improving that situation with exercise.

I realized that I was chewing on my gum around the 7th series.

I did not remember 'breathing sequence', so I will be correcting that as well.

Reading glasses: My sight is questionable at 'sight-length' w/o reading glasses.
It's fine beyond 36" or so, at least for now.
This causes an EXTREME focus issue at the target.
I did use glasses(reading) for all but one series.

Looks pretty damn good to me for not having shot in so long. I think alot of the spread was due to the arm fatigue you describe. A little exercise and some more practice should tighten things up.

When I was a new shooter (1 year ago) the aspect that improved my accuracy the most is the grip/hand placement. Sad to say I'm still working on making it second nature. I have to consciously think about it every time. Here is a video that helped me.

Your first group shows the best technique, which isn't surprising.

Learning a good grip is good to do, early on...but won't effect accuracy.

Front sight focus, good sight picture, press the trigger w/o moving the sights out of alignment....that's it.

You've got it, just walk away when you get tired. Nothing wrong with shooting 25 or 50 rounds at a time, just make sure they're GOOD rounds.

Shooting shots when your tired just gives you muscle memory performing a task poorly. It won't make you a better shooter any faster; it fact, it'll just slow your progress down.

Hey It looks to me(mind you I'm no expert)that for not shooting for that long that wasn't bad at all. You have the right idea practice makes perfect. This is what someone told me recently I asked the same question at the range. Try to focus on the front site post try to make sure its not movieing when you pull the trigger. The slitest movement will throw off your round. It helped me. Have fun on the range Remember this in a life or death situation its the first shot that counts if you have to shoot 50 times to hit your target your already dead

man those are good groups. not having done it for quite some time and the vision issue....very good.

Didn't see any real issues there, taking into consideration your time off from shooting and the vision. The groups do open up, but they're staying fairly centered over the target, so your grip and pull are both clean.

You didn't say what model Smith 9mm you were shooting, so some of it may be the gun (full size vs subcompact, those groups look about what I could do at 30' with some of the smaller subs).

Not bad I will say, just practice. Some handguns are very heavy when holding them for awhile. If you got a Nintendo Wii play that. Works out some arm move ments. Practice an that should improve you a bit.

Grip doesn't have to do with where the bullets go.

You can hold the gun with 2 fingers and hit accurately.

Sight alignment and trigger control...the rest is the icing on the cake.

Will give it another go today and will cut back on the rounds fired.
