Default Knowledge of firearms and the movies.

Tonight the wife and I saw the movie Taken. As with most action movies, I find myself finding flaws during the shooting scenes. For example bullets being stopped by car doors and home walls to 5-10 second bursts from automatics. The best was for a preview for a movie(can't remember the name) which the actor stated "that were dealing with a professional hitman because these cases(brass) are untraceable". LOL

I find through personal experience, that I notice these flaws alot more than say my wife or friends, who are amazed when I explain to them how it works in the real world.

Anyone else find themselves doing this?

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Aside from the amazing on screen magazines that allow any handgun to fire 200 rounds without a reload, my all time fave is the actor who fires one round, and the slide is now locked open on a semi-auto, yet he has the BGs all "covered", while they arrest them...

It`s entertainment not reality. Hint.....people can`t really drive like that, Arnold didn`t come back from the future, Shrek isn`t real and the sex is usually simulated.

Monica would prefer that I not speak during any TV show or movie regarding medicine, guns, or since I became active here, law.

I always get a kick out of someone having a Glock and they dub in the sound of the hammer going back...It's always classic. Happens ALOT on 24.

What!? No! Say it isn't so! Shrek isn't real? I going to go cry now.

Seriously though, part of the problem with inaccurate portrayals in film and TV is that the public doesn't seem to understand that it isn't real. Not just with firearms, but anything. The less real experience they have with something the more they seem to believe the screen. We get people in the hospital all the time asking for unnessecary tests, or thinking they have some rare condition because they saw it on ER or House. You will never see 6 Dr.s in a room in real life unless 5 of them are residents and they are only there to give the dumb looks. You will never see a DR do 99% of the procedures they do on TV. One of us underlings will be doing them.

    yeah, TV is entertainment.

Sometimes people have a hard time seperating TV from reality (just bring up wrestling and see how many people say 'that's fake'). By always pointing out what's "wrong" with a scene or show, not only are you diminishing YOUR possible enjoyment, but also you're diminishing the enjoyment of those around you. Best thing to do, come on here and point out the "hammer clicks" of the glocks, etc., with people that will appreciate what Hollywood gets wrong.

And don't tell me Homer Simpson ain't real!!!!!!

LOL I know its entertainment and I still love watching movie but, as TrueCrimson pointed out people take what they see on tv and movies as being reality.

Machine guns or semi auto rifles are a perfect example. On tv or in the movies almost every crime involves one yet, in the real world they're use accounts for less than 1 pecent. Yet most people are unawre of this due to tv and the media and are infavor of banning such firearms even though we know that there is little to no tactical advantage between full auto and semi auto rifles.

I would never ruin anyones enjoyment during a movie. Most of the discussions I speak of are after the movie has ended and we're talking about it.

And Homer Simpson is real! There's a little bit of him in every father!

    [remove] Tin Foil Hat
It’s really a conspiracy of Hollywood and the Left to desensitize the sheeple to reality.
Shovel them enough $hit and they swallow it because it takes to much effort to really think.
If you go into any of our schools or talk to any of the kids out there everything they see on the tube is real life.
