As Ronny would say... "Well...."
Well, its done. A trip to Lackland AFB San Antonio TX is booked..
One of my sort of "stepsons" is graduating basic the weekend of Mar 8. So his mom, youngest sister, his brother and I are flying down for the ceremonies and such. He'll be off to his MO shortly there after, training to be some sort of numbers cruncher or bean counter.
If all goes well we'll be there for the parade on the 5th to final grad on the 8th. Then fly back on the 9th.
With any luck I can also meet up with an uncle that lives in Austin not far from San Antonio. He retired from the AF back in late 70's. Also hoping to visit the Alamo while we are in town.

Congrats to the new Airman. San Antone is beautiful and let me tell you there will definitely be good food and good times to be had. That was many moons ago for me but there was a lot of fun there. Great restaraunts and very friendly folks.

If your uncle is retired there is lodging available on base for a real steal. We went down for our G-sons graduation and stayed on base for about 36.00 a night. I have been told that we could have booked rooms for the rest of the family. Try to make the events the day before graduation they are also cool. Tell the airman thanks for his service and think about making a career of it.

Re: As Ronny would say... "Well...."
Thank you all! I'll pass things along to Matt when we see him.
We got a room at a local motel/hotel. We wanted a swimming pool and easy access to other amenities off base. I think we got a pretty good deal on the trip; about $1450 for room (5) nights, full-sized car (6) days, and (4) round trip airline tickets.
My uncle's place is about 80 miles away and not enough room for 4 of us. We were offered on-base provisions, but my "friend"(ex-fiancee' from 11 years ago) and I both are bringing pistols for off-base carrying.
