Default Deciding what rifle to buy: Sig 556 vs ar15 vs ak47

    Yeah,
I'm having trouble figuring out which to get. I have about $1000 to work with and I'd like to buy an semi auto in 5.56 or 7.62. Between the three, which would you buy and why. OR if there is something else you would spend the money on, list it but also include why.

    My collection so far:
Remington 870 express super magnum (12ga)
    Remington model 7 (.308)
    Calico m100s (.22)

Thanks for any and all information!

I have an AR and an AK and love them both. If I were you I'd get the AK first.
    • It's a rock-solid platform that's proven to be one of the most reliable designs ever.
    • 7.62x39 ammo is way cheaper than .223 (although it is catching up).
    • An AK is easier to maintain than an AR.
    • AK's are generally less expensive than AR's so you'll have more $$$ to stock up on plenty of mags & ammo.
    • It's an AK and no matter what it will always go bang when you pull the trigger

    I say an AK ...

For $1000 you can get the gun, and a case of ammo ... maybe some extra mags. Depends on which AK you get.

We can go back and forth on the whole AK vs AR discussion ... but this is what it comes down to for me.

    1. You can get an AK right now ... AR are harder to come by
    2. Only so many AK kits will be imported ... so only a few sporters will be imported. This will cause the prices of AKs to increase faster.
    3. You can buy the AK right now and buy AR parts one by one as you save more money.

I don't think you will be able to find a Sig 556 for $1000 so to me it's between the AR and AK.

Out of the three ideally I'd go for an AR. However if I could get a Sig 556 for 1K I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. If anyone tried to get 1K for an AK I'd generally tell him to go fuck himself for the most part, there are some that might go for that kind of premium but not many that one is generally likely to find.

    +1000 to that.

Which gives the Dems the willies the worse? An AK - symbology of Pure Evil?

Or AR? - made in the USA by employed Americans, Chevies and Mom's apple pie?

Get a Yugo, they are still out and about for under the $800.00 barrier - which I still think is an acceptable price for the best of the easily-available-everywhere AKs.

Good Euro parts and good USA parts = great AK for the price of a low-end AR.

I'd say if you can get a Sig 556 for a 1000.00 buy it, but I don't think you will. With that said I'd get an AR15.

If I could have only 1 registered fighting carbine for the rest of my days in the continental US...it'd be an AR.

    Interesting
So, if i can find the sig for 1000 get it.

otherwise i have to decide between AK and AR. Which, at this point I think it's safe to say the AK is cheaper and my money will go further. If there is a ban it wont just be on the AK it'll be on the AR too. Man, I wish I could afford both

    Pros of the ak
cheaper, cheaper ammo, as reliable as the AR

    pros of the AR
    more accurate, more customizable.

At this point because of these pros I'm still caught in a dead lock. The AR will be a better platform because when you have the lower you can rebuild an upper to be a different cal. Whereas with the AK you'll have to buy something else (i think).

What is the list of best manufacturers for both the AK and AR?

If there were a ban would mags be banned too or just the rifles?

Also, how much cheaper is 7.62 over 5.56?
