Ground hogs are fun, and they are great practice if you use your deer rifle.

Would a 12 gauge be good for them? And does anyone know if SGL 249 is any good for ground hogs? I was up there today and there were signs of deer all over the place. It was a beautiful thing.

Groundhog, crow and coyote are about the only things legal then.

Good luck getting a chuck with a shotgun in a rural area. Most will hit their hole the moment it sees or smells you. You wont find many chuck's in the woods. Wooded areas tend to have insufficient undergrowth of the plants that they eat. Your best luck will come at the edges of woods, in farm fields, and fence lines and hedge rows. In urban areas or around houses they do get a little less edgy and you can get in shotty range.

Crows are pretty smart critters, some seem to know what a gun looks like. lol

Coyotes are also fairly shy animals. Getting within shotgun range is nearly impossible without calling it in and sitting perfectly still.

Mmmmmm groundhog season starts in March down here in NJ. Can't wait. Get yourself a nice rifle and kill as many as you can!

Once September/October hits, small game and birds start to come into season.

Be sure to get the $2 federal migratory bird license for dove and other birds. If you want to hunt ducks(and I think geese) - you will need a duck stamp which is available at some venders and at most post offices.

2009-2010 PA hunting licenses aren't good until July 1st. You'd have to get a 2008-2009 license to hunt upto July 1st, then a 2009-2010 license to hunt there after.
