Default So I finally started my bench...

We moved back in November to our own place. Since then I've been using an advocato green table from the 70's as my work space for projects. I kinda got sick of hunching over and just wanted a space that I could start working on stuff and it would be stable and would eventually (when finished) provide storage as well.

I have some pictures during the building process but they're on my dad's camera and I'll post them as soon as I get them.

The goal was a decent workspace with room to improve upon if necessary. We did this and then I added onto it almost immediately in my quest to someday have a reloading press/area.

It's coming along but I still need to cut the one top out and then also the hardboard/masonite top. Then I need to get the shelving system figured out and some cabinets/drawers for underneath.

Anyway - pics! feel free to post comments or criticisms. The thing is friggin solid though.

Im planning on continuing the "reloading" (16" section) along the whole wall (20 feet) and I have an entire 4'x8' panel of pegboard at the end of that too.

So I'll get more space as I move on.

I have a drill press but it's not shown, plan to continue building this over the next few months....2x4's are cheap

1" or even 3/4" plywood isnt as cheap....but solid.

Haven't leaked in 30 years (Wife's parents owned it before us - and we just had a plumber go over everything before we moved in.

If they did leak I would be "pissed" (literally) if you know what I mean.

Looks great already. The lowly 2x4 emerges victorious. How long is that bench...8'?

Looks like you're on your way. You might want to search the local shopper paper for some used kitchen wall cabinets for that blank wall.

    I like it.

Not the bigest bench in the world, but she'll do fine. You need a vice on there though. I don't know what I'd do without a vice and a bench grinder.

I haven't put the hardboard top on it yet, so my vise isnt on there, but rest assured that I have one.

The final final design will be hella cool...that 16" side of the "L" will continue for a total of 16 or 18 feet and then another bench like the main on on the oppose wall. Should work out for me pretty well.

Wood is cheap! More to come!
