    Default Ammo Can Storage

Ok ... So I just bought a few .50 cal ammo cans for storage. I'm curious as to how people store their ammo in the cans.

Do you storage them loose or in boxes? I've seen seen pictures of what looks like the ammo has basically been dumped in loose, stacked neatly loose, and stack neatly in the little 20rd or 100rd boxes.

My boxes are primarily going to be used for 7.62x39 and 5.56

I keep alot of my ammo loose in them, for storage reasons and for space reasons

    In original packs/boxes mostly.

Most of mine is in boxes inside the ammo cans. The exception would be my "shooting" cans of 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r both of those I keep loose. I have "storage" ammo in those calibers that I leave in boxes/tins.

If I had enough I would do that with .223 but I can't seem to afford to stockpile that one yet.

How about any water proofing/air sealing?

Or "desicant" (sp?) packs (those little packs that absorb moisture in new shoes, etc.)

yep. I keep it in boxs (easier for knowing how much I have) and toss a desicant pack in each can.

I had one I stored loose 40SW in, beacuse it wouldnt all fit while in the box's. Then i traded of my 40 pistol and when i traded the ammo I had to dump it all out and count it.

i have one for ammo, and one for the range.
keeping the ammo in its original boxes is just easier for me, so thats what i do. in the other can, are extra range mags, and ear plugs, and extra staples and so forth.

a desiccant is never a bad idea either.

Plus your ammo smells like beef jerkey.

I store 9mm in a similar type storage box, I tried just dumping them in and still had about 40 rounds left over, so I dumped them out and stacked the 9mm ammo nicely. Once stacked in some sort of order I was able to fit the rest of the ammo but it took some time.

I also keep a slip of paper in the can and keep track of the inventory, adding when I buy and subtracting out what I shot.

Other types of ammo I keep in the mfg boxes because its easier to know how much I have on hand.

If the can is complete it has a seal around the top and when latched closed it is waterproof. Toss a small dessicant bag in there and the ammo should last just about forever.

I also use 50 ammo cans for my bug out/survival/SHTF stuff. My wife knows exactly what guns to take and which prepacked cans/ammo to grab and go if something happens.
