Question Help me decide on my first carry gun

I'm having a bit of a personal dilemma deciding between these three pistols for a carry gun, so I thought I'd check the board consensus and see if anyone's had experience with them.

I'm trying to pick between 3 sigs: 220 compact in .45, p239 in .40 or .357 sig, or the 229 in .40. I'll be trying to sell my Sig Pro to fund this purchase (it's too big to carry comfortably) plus adding my tax refund, so my budget is around $900 otd. It also matters which model will have the best options as far as holsters/accessories available.

I'd also thought about a compact 1911, but I like the DA/SA system Sig uses and I'd probably end up spending more for the the same quality.

    Opinions?

I have fired all three, but I bought the 239. 1) It was a good deal, and 2) It can't be beat for "tuckability." It's small (but not too small for my long fingers) and flat-- very low profile when carried in an IWB holster. I have often just put it in my jacket pocket or even in my pants pocket. It does have some heft to it, compared to a polymer frame, but that also dampens the recoil of the 40. It is also a very accurate pistol.

I did vote on your poll.
but just so you know, there are really good compact 1911's available in your price range:

The poll is broken, I didn't see an option for "just get a Glock".

DA/SA, all metal, large size grips relative to capacity....for a first carry gun?
P229 9mm would be my vote, since you included different calibers in the poll it looks like you're not set on one in particular...in which case 9mm makes a lot of sense.

The reason for the large grips is because I have big hands. I've held a lot of glocks (haven't shot yet) but don't like the feel. Do you think that DAO would be better than DA/SA for carry?

From the options availible I would choose the sig 239 SAS with the DAK trigger. I'm pretty sure they can be had in the $900 range. If you can't get the SAS in your price range I would probably still try to get the DAK trigger. I am a big fan of a consistent trigger pull on self defense guns. I am also in the "just get a glock" crowd. I would also opt for 9mm, but you know what they say about opinions...everybody's got one.

Good luck and keep us informed on your purchase.

I think the less you have to worry about the better. Decockers, multiple trigger pulls to master...doesn't do it for me.

Regarding large hands...they bigger than mine?

Those are my mitts on a 5" 1911. Glocks felt small to me, now they feel great.

    YMMV.
