Does an inch really matter?
I am considering a purchase of two revolvers one in 22 lr and one in 22 magnum. I have decided on make and model, but need help on barrel length. My choices are 4" and 5". I know that a longer barrel means slightly higher velocity, and more importantly a longer sight radius. These would be target/hunting revolvers with no desire to use them for defense or conceal them. I have a few 4 inch revolvers that are defense weapons so I am leaning toward a similar platform. I am asking for input as to positives or negatives either way I may be over looking.
Just in case it comes up, price is the same for both barrel lengths in like calibers. I would also like to order both revolvers in the same barrel lengths. Thanks for your help. Also, I have a 22lr/22mag revolver with two cylinders, and I am not looking to get another one. Thank you for trying to save me money.

Re: Does an inch really matter?
For the purpose as stated, go with the longer sight radius. No reason not to.

As stated, get the longer one. You want it for target shooting.

Re: Does an inch really matter?
If you were to ask my wife, she would WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE that an inch can make a huge difference!
Seriously though....
For hunting and target shooting, the longer barrel will allow you better results. For that application, it should not be a question.. go long barrel.

Re: Does an inch really matter?
Longer barrel for the revolver... A .22 doesn't need a whole lot of barrel in the first place for maximum velocity. A .22 rifle with a 22 inch barrel will produce the same velocity as a 26 inch barrel... Just not enough powder. A 5 inch barrel is fine, 6 inch barrel is better... lol
