Default How often do I need to change the gas in the tube....

I got asked that question the other day. Now granted it was asked by a fella that by his own admission did not know to much about .mil style rifles. But I did find it comical. So I thought I would share.

Ummm .... I just wouldn't know how to answer a question like that.

Was he really serious or just yanking your chain?
He couldn't have been at all familiar with firearms.

I guess the correct answer to the unknowing would have been ...
    after every round is fired.

Not as often as you change the turn signal fluid in your car flashers.

He said it twice. Once over the phone, and again in person. On the phone I just could not understand what he was talking about. But in person. He pointed to it and said this gas in here, how often does it need changed. I must have been looking at him like a dog listens to a high pitched noise because he got a really disturbed look on his face. I explained it to him and he seemed to grasp the concept. I had just never heard such a question. Overthinking maybe? I don't know.

I don't think making fun of the guy is a very good way to introduce him to the safe handling and workings of a firearm.

We are supposed to be gun advocates, not gun snobs.

Remember there is no such thing as stupid questions regarding firearms.

They guy was asking a legitimate question because he really didn't know. I give him major kudos for wanting to know everything he possibly can about his firearm.

Maybe he should of just gone to the inexperienced snot nosed kid at the local Dicks counter for information.

The military changes the gas in the gas-tube, in the same intervals as they change the windshield wipers on their submarines, and the air-horns in the space shuttle.
